With almost twenty years of professional experience, my practice focuses on community dance, choreography, and academic as well as artistic research, encompassing a diverse range of projects, initiatives and collaborations.
COMMUNITY DANCE
As a community dance artist, I work across a diverse portfolio of contexts, including dance projects in educational settings, open workshops in community environments, and initiatives within higher education institutions. I have extensive experience working with vulnerable and marginalised populations, with a focus on personal transformation and social change. Performance plays a pivotal role in my practice, serving as a shared moment of visibility, connection, and achievement. Alongside this, I mentor young artists on placement and professional training programmes.
CHOREOGRAPHY
My choreographic practice focuses on the creation of original, socially engaged work that reaches new audiences and seeks to foster empowerment through dance. Collaboration is central to my process—working with established artists as well as community performers, I build performative structures that are rooted in our shared humanity and emerge from lived experience. My work has been presented internationally, such as at HeForShe Arts Week (Bangkok) and the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation conference Dealing with the Past (Phnom Penh). National performances include the Richard-Strauss-Festival (Garmisch-Partenkirchen), Kunstareal Fest and TEDxTUM (München).
RESEARCH
As a researcher, I explore dance at the intersection of art and pedagogy, with a particular interest in its potential for transformative learning as an aesthetic, social, and embodied practice of knowing and meaning-making. Focusing on the Dance United Methodology as a specific case of community dance in social inclusion, my PhD research “Lives transformed through dance” identifies nine methodological core concepts and integrates them into a theoretical framework of transformative learning.
