After three weeks of intense artistic research into the subject of Domestic Violence in Cambodia, New Cambodian Artists and I are very pleased to be able to share a first draft of the choreography with the Artistic Director, Bob Ruijzendaal, tomorrow.
Throughout our artistic research we have used different creative stimuli to generate movement responses. This included the Chbab Srey (‘Women’s Law), the Cambodian proverb ‘Men are gold, women are cloth’ and the archetype of the Female Warrior. It has been such a joy to guide the dancers through this process and shaping their powerful and authentic movements into a piece of choreography together creating a strong message of female empowerment through dance.
Thank you you all very much for your ongoing support of this project! In order to be able to disseminate this work to women in rural areas, where an awareness of the issue of domestic violence is most vital, NCA and I require additional funds. So please continue to spread the word and support this project!
